You traveled all the way here on U.S. Highway 1, and now it's time to honor your journey. The historic road into and out of town is officially marked at Mile Marker 0. It is located near the intersection of Whitehead and Fleming Streets. On Duval Street, there is a store where you can buy hats, bumper stickers, and other touristy items, but it is not the same. Avoid falling for imitations! It's simple to locate on your own and capture on camera! 

This is without a doubt the most unique island in the chain of islands known as The Florida Keys. In addition to being the southernmost region in the USA, this region is well-known for having been the winter homes of President Harry S. Truman, Ernest Hemingway, and John Audubon. The three well-known figures had quite different outlooks on life from one another, which best illustrates Key West's diversity.

Key West has plenty to offer everyone, whether you have a penchant for conservation or you want to live in the moment. The Southernmost Point is a sizable stone marker that can be found at the end of Whitehead Street, where you may take your Mile Marker 0 photo. It serves to identify the southernmost point of the American continent. Surprisingly it isn't. The official location is a restricted U.S. Navy base a few hundred yards to the southwest, but only approved personnel are allowed there. Despite this, if you don't take a picture at this cool location, you can't claim to have visited Key West.

You can travel Key West without a car, which is one of its unique features. The best sights and activities can be fully appreciated on foot, on bicycle, or even in an electric vehicle. For a true taste of Key West, visit some of the city's many museums, theaters, bars, and sidewalk cafés.

It's challenging to fit all you want to see into the limited time you have while traveling to Key West and strolling down Duval Street. If you're only staying a day or two in town, you might want to think about joining a tour. You can start with the Conch Tour Train, but you can also discover more customized tours that can add a more individualized touch to your trip.
